Jon began playing piano at the age of 12 while growing up near Boston, Massachusetts. He started figuring out pop tunes by ear when his parents bought a piano for the home. After a year of picking out melodies and chords, Jon began taking lessons centered on music theory and jazz harmony. Throughout high school, Jon fed his interest by participating in jazz band and chorus. He also performed with his own rock band at various school functions.
Although living near Boston made Berklee School of Music the obvious choice, Jon chose to audition for and attend the University of Miami School of Music in Coral Gables, Florida. There he received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano under the instruction of Vince Maggio (former students include Bruce Hornsby, T. Lavitz, and Mike Gerber). Prior to graduation, Jon was already making connections outside of the University and playing gigs at South Florida venues. While the demand for his services steadily increased, he continued his education and received a Masters of Music in Media Writing and Music Production under department head Raul Murciano PhD.
Jon’s hallmark is his versatility in performance, style, and production capabilities. By playing solo piano jobs for many years, he has amassed a wealth of standard songs and showtunes in his vast repertoire. He also has performed in and assisted with many musical theater productions such as BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL, BOOK OF MORMON, BILLY ELLIOT, MOTOWN and WICKED. Jon’s credentials span from being a solid pit orchestra musician to writing arrangements for major shows. He is also a highly sought-after accompanist. Jon has played with many acclaimed recording artists such as John Lloyd Young (Jersey Boys), Jon Secada, Julio Iglesias, and Christian Castro in shows that have varied in size from intimate gatherings to major performance arenas.
